Meridian Energy (June-August 2008)
Ascari provided research and financial modelling support to Meridian Energy on their Electric Vehicles Project. This project included undertaking net present value analysis to estimate the relative lifetime costs of owning and operating an electric vehicle compared with a standard petrol and diesel internal combustion engine vehicle, both now and in the future, forecasting potential uptake paths for electric vehicles in New Zealand, estimating the potential electricity demand that mass uptake of electric vehicles might require, and estimating the potential “size of the prize” for Meridian if it continues with its electric vehicles programme. The results were presented to Meridian’s Executive Management team, who subsequently decided to continue to invest in the programme.
